THE DOWNTOWN DETROIT PARTNERSHIP WITH SUPPORT FROM MEIJER OFFERS SHOPPERS FREE ICE SKATING ADMISSION TO THE RINK AT CAMPUS MARTIUS PARK

Beginning January 22, The Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP) in collaboration with Meijer will offer shoppers free ice skating admission passes to The Rink at Campus Martius Park. In total, 500 passes will be distributed per week at six store locations in Detroit and surrounding suburbs.

Detroit's New Year's Eve ball drop moving to Beacon Park from Campus Martius

The annual New Year’s Eve ball drop in downtown Detroit is getting a new home with more space.

“The Drop” — DTE Energy’s Motor City NYE Presented by Quicken Loans — is moving from Campus Martius to Beacon Park located at Grand River and Cass avenues, event producers say.

“Beacon Park’s energy and beauty will provide the ideal backdrop for ringing in the new year,” Nancy Moody, vice president of Public Affairs for DTE Energy, said in a news release sent by event organizers at Motor City NYE LLC. “We’re proud to support this Detroit tradition and to provide the venue for party goers and families alike to celebrate a one-of-a-kind New Year’s Eve.”

FOOD TRUCKS RETURN TO DOWNTOWN DETROIT PARKS

Downtown Detroit Partnership is excited to announce that food trucks have returned to Downtown Detroit for the winter season! The wildly popular Downtown Street Eats program will now offer a variety of food trucks in Cadillac Square, Spirit of Detroit Plaza, The Woodward Esplanade and Beacon Park through March 4.

A rotating group of over 60 local food trucks will provide hungry park visitors a wide range of culinary options to grab and go, enjoy fireside, inside “igloos” at Spirit of Detroit Plaza, or a heated 10,000 square foot tent at Beacon Park.

DETROIT - NOV. 27, 2017 – DTE Energy Foundation and the Downtown Detroit Partnership are excited to announce a title attempt for the largest gathering of people wearing holiday (Christmas season) sweaters and jumpers at Beacon Park on December 9. Presented by UglyChristmasSweater.com, the Guinness World Records™ attempt will aim to break the current record of 3,473 set at the Kansas Athletics vs. Montana men’s basketball game on December 19, 2015 in Lawrence, KS.

Participants will be asked to convene at Beacon Park on the corner of Cass and Grand River at 6:30 p.m. to begin the process of getting participants in place for the official count. UglyChristmasSweater.com will also be on site selling an assortment of holiday sweaters to anyone needing approved attire.

DETROIT - NOV 8, 2017 – The DTE Energy Foundation and the Downtown Detroit Partnership are excited to announce that Downtown Detroit’s newest public space will kick off a spectacular and innovative season of winter programming with Light Up Beacon Park on November 17 from

5 p.m. to midnight. The holiday party marks the first time in Detroit Tree Lighting history that the family-favorite tradition will expand its entertainment to two separate Downtown parks with free shuttles between the two public spaces. It also kicks off the beginning of Beacon Park’s winter programming schedule filled with silent discos, a beer and wine festival, visits with Santa and much more.

DETROIT, Mich., Nov. 1, 2017 – For the 14th consecutive year, the Downtown Detroit Partnership continues one of the city’s most highly anticipated holiday celebrations - the annual Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony. Brought to you by DTE Energy Foundation, the event will feature a Michigan-grown, 60-foot Norwegian Spruce wrapped in more than 19,000 multi-colored lights and ornaments. The event begins at 5 p.m. and is free to the public.
