Opening Weekend for Beacon Park Detroit a Success

As soon as the shovels were put away from last year’s ground breaking for Beacon Park Detroit, the work began to make sure the park would open with a big splash. From the physical construction of the park to planning the programming, everything needed to happen quickly.

That planning and hard work came to fruition last Thursday as Nancy Moody, vice president of Public Affairs for DTE Energy, kicked off the opening weekend of Beacon Park Detroit by welcoming employees, neighbors and visitors as the community gathered to celebrate.

With more than 600 events scheduled to take place at the park by the end of 2017, the park seems to be appropriately named. “It came down to what we want it to be, a beacon for the redevelopment of the area that surrounds it and a beacon for visitors to Detroit,” Gerry Anderson, DTE Energy Chairman and CEO told radio host Paul W. Smith.

In fact, more than $500 million in investment surrounding Beacon Park Detroit has started since the park groundbreaking last summer. But the highlight, by far, were all of the visitors enjoying the park for the first time.
