The centerpiece of Campus Martius Park is its world class fountain with approximately 100 water jets. The Woodward Fountain is active year-round including when it is topped with the city’s 60-foot-tall Christmas tree during the holiday season. The fountain features a raised central plinth with jets that shoot water more than 100 feet into the air as water also shimmers and cascades down granite walls into the basin below. Water simultaneously falls down perimeter steps while jets arc in from the corners. Light and music add drama during choreographed events.
Granite waterwalls line the western edge of the north and south sitting gardens. Their sculpted forms provide the sense of constant motion, and the sound of gently dripping water provides a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of Woodward Avenue. Lush perennial plantings flower behind the walls.
